Travel does not only mean leaving on a jet plane, sometimes it’s about visiting that new museum in town. Last December 25, 2014, Art in Island, the largest 3D museum in Asia, was introduced to the public located in Cubao, Quezon City.
I really wanted to see Art in Island the moment I heard about it. More than a month ago, we went to Seoul Korea and the first thing we did was to visit the Trick Eye Museum in Hongdae. How I wish I can paint but since I can’t, I’m very much happy to visit art museums. The experience we had in Trick Eye Museum was enormously crazy that I wouldn’t miss it in Manila if there will be one. Just when I hope Manila can also have a trick art museum, here comes Art in Island!
Largest 3D Museum in Asia
Art in Island is claimed to be the largest 3D museum in Asia in terms of the number of 3D paintings available, around 200 masterpieces. It was founded by Yun Jae Kyoung together with his other Korean partners. Korean artists also worked on the paintings in the museum.
Let’s Begin! Leave Your Shoes!
Upon entering, we were asked to leave our shoes at the counter. Yes, SHOES are NOT ALLOWED inside to preserve the paintings because some can be found in the floor. Better wear socks or bring one. I roam around the museum barefooted and the floor is darn cold! Also wear comfortable clothing for you to be able to do crazy poses!
Rules of Photography
You can take as many photos as you like. But use of FLASH is NOT ALLOWED. TRIPODS are also PROHIBITED.
Art of Optical Illusion
As we started, a few framed optical illusion art hanging in the walls welcomed us. The classic image by the cartoonist W. E. Hill is there! It’s the young lady and old hag optical illusion.
Another double-image painting is from the Ukrainian artist Oleg Shuplyak. His painting shows two portraits of Vincent Van Gogh, one of which is used to create the nose of the main image. There are also some multi-color and rotation optical illusion art to deceive and entertain you!
Themed Zones
There are seven different themed zones that we truly enjoyed. The different zones include aquatic zone, animal zone, masterpiece zone (interact with the famous paintings around the world), central hall (explore the dungeons of the ancient times), religious zone (religious world of art), fantasy zone (magical and mysterious walls), and Christmas zone.
Be Mindful of Others
Wait for your turn and do not intrude when there are people posing and taking pictures at a certain art. We found this couple intervening while we’re still taking our photos. As they move around, they seem not to really care with other people as if they are the only ones in the museum. True story! And a very annoying one!
Be Creative and Interact With the Paintings
Unleash those creative poses and connect with the paintings! Be a surfer or a mermaid or Leonardo da Vinci! Have wings or ride in a magic carpet! For me, interacting with the paintings is somewhat therapeutic as it gives you the avenue to express much varied emotions. You are also able to get to do the things you only see in movies! Or be in a place that only exists in fantasies!
Make Friends with Strangers
Be cheerful and kind. There are other guests who will gladly volunteer to help you take your pictures, even with your group. Do the same for others too! The staff of Art in Island are scattered in the area and are very enthusiastic to help you out as well. They can suggest to you the right poses and positions to take. They will also initiate to take your photos. They will even encourage you to take every single shot you can have.
Bringing Arts Closer to the Public
With the society we have nowadays where technology makes the world go round, the arts are almost always neglected. With destinations like Art in Island, people especially the young ones will be able to appreciate arts more as the paintings are made interactive and extremely enjoyable.

Art in Island is definitely for everyone! For the young ones and young at heart! I was very fascinated to see everyone overly excited and delighted to show off their poses and bring out the creativity within them. It is a great bonding for group of friends or the entire family.
Insider Tips
- There are markers that will guide you where to properly stand and take photos. They can actually make it more noticeable.
- There are also sample pictures displayed on the wall to give you ideas on what you can do in some paintings or how to properly pose. Although creativity is highly encouraged, the sample poses are very helpful.
- The museum tour can be finished for around two to three hours.
- There is NO ADMISSION FEE for children below 3FT.
- Students, PWD and senior citizens have 20% discount. Just bring a valid ID.
- Eating or drinking is not allowed inside the museum.
- There is a FREE SNACK at the end of the museum tour. A bottled water and a selection of biscuit are provided.
- Do not lose your claim tag given when you deposit your shoes, there is a fine of PHP100.
- Do not leave without wrist stamp if you just want to go out temporarily.
- Selling of tickets is until 8pm.
- Art in Island is open during holidays.
- No need for reservations. You can visit the museum anytime.
- Credit cards not accepted yet.
- No online purchasing of tickets, it can only be bought at the museum itself.
Year-round Promos
- Birthday Promo – Free admission on the day of your birthday, a day before or a day after. Just bring your birth certificate or any valid ID indicating your birth date.
- Loyalty Promo – On your next visit, present your old ticket and your picture inside the museum to avail the 50% off on your entrance fee.
- Group Promo – With a minimum of 20 persons (regardless of age), get 20% off the ticket price.
How to Go to Art in Island
Art in Island is near Gateway Mall, Araneta Center, Ali Mall and Cubao Expo.
To go via 15th Avenue, you can go through Aurora Boulevard. 15th Avenue is a one-way street from Aurora Boulevard. Go straight ahead 15th Avenue and you can see Art in Island on the right side.
You can also go to Art In Island through the back entrance ofCubao Expo (former Marikina Shoe Expo). From P. Tuazon Boulevard, turn to Gen. Romulo Avenue. Go straight ahead and enter Cubao Expo.

Is the admission free if it is your birthday? And what are the procedures?
Hi, I previously mentioned in my comment that admission is not free even if it’s your birthday. Upon checking updates in their FB page, i found out that admission is free on the day of your birthday, a day before and a day after your birthday. Just bring your birth certificate or any valid ID with your birth date indicated. I will update my post too 🙂

Hi, you can take the MRT and get off at Cubao station. You can also take a bus going to Fairview or Monumento (make sure the signboard says “CUBAO IBABAW”, not “CUBAO FASTLANE” or “CUBAO ILALIM”). It’s at the back of Cubao Expo, you can walk from Araneta Center-Cubao station or Farmers Market. It is beside Union Square Condominium.

It’s at the back of Cubao Expo, you can walk from Araneta Center-Cubao station or Farmers Market. There is actually a back entrance in Cubao Expo. From P. Tuazon Boulevard, turn to Gen. Romulo Avenue. Go straight and enter Cubao Expo. There is no available photographer during the tour but the staff is very helpful and would volunteer to take your photos. Hope this helps! Enjoy! 🙂

Hello Aibie. Upon checking their FB page,the promo they’ll be having for Nov is for the halloween season. I read you have to be in a complete Halloween costume to get a free admission. 🙂 If you happen to be near Cubao expo, you can just walk.

Hi April, tripods are not allowed 🙁 We were also only two when we went there. The staff volunteered to take our pictures. And some other kind visitors helped us take our photos. We did the same for them too 🙂

Yes there was a free snack when we visited. Based from our visit, they were not strict naman on the food. You just get on the counter, they don’t give or distribute it one by one. 🙂

Hi, if you’re going to take LRT, you can go down at Cubao station and walk from there. But for more convenience since you have a baby with you, you can take a cab from Cubao, it will just be a few-minute ride from there. Birth certificate is ok. But you can only avail the promo on the day, a day before and a day after your birthday.
