Thunderbird Resort: A Taste of Santorini in La Union

Have you been dreaming of that iconic Santorini getaway? Well, La Union has its own Santorini if you want a taste of it without having to go to Greece. No kidding!

I just recently got a new job after my almost five-year stint from a previous company. The feeling of starting over felt unfamiliar and a little uncomfortable. Aside from the work environment, there are other things that I have to adjust to as well, like living on my own for the very first time. The adulting thing they called suddenly hit me really hard. I must admit, it rattled me a bit but at the same time, it excited me very much.

Two months after the onset of my new journey, summer came. There were things that didn’t went as I expected them to be, but I am moving forward. Fortunately, as if the universe was consoling me, I got an amazing break through our company-sponsored summer outing. And indeed, a summer getaway can’t be any better if the destination is as beautiful as Thunderbird Resort.

About Thunderbird Resort

Thunderbird Resort is a luxurious 65-hectare resort-hotel, a paradise siting prettily over a 100-ft cliff, at the highest point of the Poro peninsula. The entire place replicates Santorini’s domes and white-blue themed architecture.

Wherever I looked, everything seemed to be postcard pretty. The Santorini inspired architecture is nothing but lovely. The four-hour travel time paid off including having to deal with under construction roads and our driver getting a little lost.

Accommodations

We stayed in one of their deluxe rooms and I must say, it was one of the finest ones I had seen.

The room speaks luxury for itself – from the huge beds to the elegant bathroom. Oh how I love big beds and beautiful bathrooms!!!

Thunderbird Resort’s room amenities is superb with provision for the following: air-condition, flat screen TV, large cabinets, tables, complimentary drinks, electronic safety box, hair dryer, complete bathroom toiletries, morning newspaper, and free wi-fi access (signal is good).

Swimming Pool

The resort has one huge pool from where you can actually witness a fabulous La Union sunset. Pool water is warm and shallow at 5ft.

Smaller pool is also provided for kids.

Beach

Thunderbird Resort’s beach encompasses a calm shoreline with white sand. I appreciate the markers they put indicating the approximate sea depth. There were just some seaweeds that litter the fine sand. It was nice strolling at the beach in the afternoon, playing around with the waters and shells.

On the Table

Food is also great in generous serving. They have complete set of meal with gourmet dishes.

On top of the free breakfast included in their package, our company availed of set buffet meals with pre-selected dishes. They had it prepared in their banquet facility that was arranged exclusively for our group.

Come dinner time, a band performed some songs.

Thunderbird Resort’s Santorini inspired architecture provides a picturesque summer getaway. Admittedly, the rooms are pricey but you can really feel the luxurious ambiance you paid for.
