The Panorama Route in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province can be regarded as one of the world’s most spectacular driving routes. It may have gained attention because of its nearness to Kruger National Park. If you’re taking the six-hour drive from Johannesburg to Mpumalanga to explore the diverse African bush and chase the Big five of Kruger National Park, you may want to stay in the area for a couple of days to make the most of your time. Discovering the Panorama Route might be all that you need.

If you are not in a hurry, you can spend a couple of days to look at the interesting attractions in Mpumalanga via the Panorama Route. But if you have limited time, you can opt to see the more popular stretch of the route which is the R532. Getting at the viewing deck means climbing concrete steps in the midst of a lush forest. If you want to unwind with nature, you can explore more by further hiking the misty rain forest. Probably the common denominator among the activities in Mpumalanga that you can venture on is the magnificent scenery. It’s not surprising that they even call the place a paradise country.
Once you reach the observation deck, the sight of endless verdant landscape will definitely leave you in awe. Stand still at the edge of the cliff and breathe nature. On a clear day, you can have a better view of the green scenery.
During our visit, clouds might have covered part of the view but for me it gave that more surreal feeling of seeing what seemed to be heaven on earth. It was really like peeking on God’s Window.
After enjoying a magical sight, it was also nice to go around and look at souvenir stalls. Don’t forget to bring a jacket or something to keep you warm especially on chilly mornings.
