Visiting Villa Escudero on a summer more than a decade ago was one of the family trips I remember growing up. My fondest memories of it include lunch by the waterfall restaurant and river rafting. As it had gone more popular through the years, I was more than glad to be back at the place for a day tour.
About Villa Escudero
Located approximately 90 kilometers south of Metro Manila between the boundaries of Laguna and Quezon, Villa Escudero is one of the frequented destinations for a weekend getaway. It started out as a sugarcane plantation in the 1880s and was later on converted to a coconut plantation. Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort finally opened to the public in 1981 providing visitors with a rich cultural escape and a rejuvenating nature retreat.
What to Do in Villa Escudero
Visit Villa Escudero if you’re in for just a chill and slow-paced retreat. Its rural vibe would take all the pressure you’re feeling away. You’d also enjoy a variety of activities at the place – suited for the entire family or even if you’re vacationing with friends.
Eat at the Waterfall Restaurant
Your Villa Escudero tour will not be complete without eating at the Labasin Waterfall Restaurant. Feasting on traditional Filipino food can’t get any better when you’re soaking your feet in a cold, running water with nature surrounding you.
Labasin Falls is an artificial waterfall, an overflow from the Labasin dam serving as hydroelectric power plant in the area.

6AM – ETD from Manila (South area)
9AM – ETA at Villa Escudero
9AM-12NN – Tour around the resort, bamboo rafting, explore the Heritage Museum.
12NN-1:30PM – Lunch at the Waterfall Restaurant.
1:30PM-4PM – More time to tour around and relax. Watch the cultural show if available (2PM-3:15PM | Thursdays – Sundays from December to August / Fridays to Sundays from September to November).
4PM – ETD to Manila
7PM-8PM – ETA in Manila
How to Get to Villa Escudero
By Public Transportation
From Manila, take any public bus heading to Lucena City. Upon boarding, let the conductor know that you will be getting off at Villa Escudero. You can then take a short tricycle ride into the resort area.
By Private Vehicle
Head south along the South Luzon Expressway and take the Sto. Tomas exit. Upon exiting, take a right (heading south) and merge into Maharlika Highway. Turn left at the Sto. Tomas junction. Continue to head south towards Lucena City, passing the town of Alaminos and San Pablo City. Slow down upon seeing the welcome arc of Tiaong, Quezon and immediately turn left onto the dirt road that leads to the resort.
